Afon Teifi in all its beauty | photo: Steffan Jones

Often referred to as the Queen of Welsh Rivers, the magnificent Teifi is receiving the specific focus it deserves from West Wales Rivers Trust in our newly launched project – Restoring River Teifi, a one year project, supported by WCVA through the Landfill Disposals Tax Community Scheme (LDTCS), which we will hope to continue the achievements of with future funding.

The Project aims to restore connections with the river Teifi, while appreciating and improving habitat quality. This will be done by working with people, nature, and landowners. The objectives will be:

  • Engage people with the river, appreciate its beauty, and safeguard biodiversity.
  • Monitor water & climate parameters.
  • Promote recovery, by working with landowners & stakeholders.
  • Provide opportunities for all ages to learn more about the river.
  • Inspire future custodians of the river

The project will encompass the Teifi catchment, with particular focus on the middle Teifi, tributaries and communities surrounding Lampeter.

There will be opportunities for the community to:

  • Improve habitats with small scale interventions: tree planting, natural flood management & more
  • Train to identify issues & threats through habitat walkover assessments
  • Join a monitoring network, collecting useful data
  • Learn more about their local river and its wildlife
  • Many more activities to come…

Afon Teifi yn ei holl harddwch | llun: Steffan Jones

Mae Afon Teifi, sy’n aml yn cael ei galw’n Frenhines Afonydd Cymru, yn cael y ffocws y mae’n ei haeddu gan Ymddiriedolaeth Afonydd Gorllewin Cymru yn ein prosiect newydd – Adfer Afonydd Teifi. Mae’n brosiect blwyddyn o hyd, a gefnogir gan CGGC drwy Gynllun Cymunedol y Dreth Gwarediadau Tirlenwi (LDTCS), rydym yn gobeithio y cawn barhau â’r cynllun gyda chyllid yn y dyfodol.

Nod y Prosiect yw adfer cysylltiadau ag Afon Teifi, gan werthfawrogi a gwella ansawdd cynefinoedd. Gwneir hyn drwy weithio gyda phobl, natur a thirfeddianwyr. Dyma’r amcanion:

  • Ymgysylltu pobl â’r afon, gwerthfawrogi ei harddwch, a diogelu bioamrywiaeth.
  • Monitro paramedrau dŵr a’r hinsawdd.
  • Hyrwyddo adferiad, drwy weithio gyda thirfeddianwyr a rhanddeiliaid.
  • Darparu cyfleoedd i bob oed ddysgu mwy am yr afon.
  • Ysbrydoli ceidwaid yr afon yn y dyfodol

Bydd y prosiect yn cwmpasu dalgylch Teifi, gan ganolbwyntio’n benodol ar ganol Afon Teifi, yr isafonydd a’r cymunedau o gwmpas Llanbedr Pont Steffan.

Dyma’r cyfleoedd i’r gymuned:

  • Gwella cynefinoedd gydag ymyriadau ar raddfa fach: plannu coed, rheoli llifogydd naturiol a mwy
  • Hyfforddi i ganfod problemau a bygythiadau drwy gynnal asesiadau ar droed i’r cynefinoedd
  • Ymuno â rhwydwaith monitro, casglu data defnyddiol
  • Dysgu mwy am eu afon leol a’i bywyd gwyllt
  • Llawer mwy o weithgareddau i ddod…
